《Traces》

Research indicates that contemporary young adults spend nearly half their waking hours seated on chairs. This prolonged physical contact has cultivated a unique «intimacy» between human bodies and furniture. Through the distinctive observational lens of photographic imagery, this series documents such intimate encounters. By capturing these subtle corporeal imprints, the work seeks to document and reflect the hidden loneliness, isolation, and anxiety beneath urban living, while exploring the invisible connections between the self, others, and societal structures in modern existence.

The photographer adopts traces as a core thematic motif, drawing inspiration from the fabric creases formed by bodies leaning against chairs. Employing traditional Chinese batik techniques, precise applications of beeswax preserve these trace patterns on textile surfaces, while indigo dye selectively colors the unwaxed areas, creating stark visual contrasts. The resulting batik textiles serve as foundational materials, which are then layered with color film negatives captured by a LOMO camera. Through multi-negative compositing techniques, these hybrid elements undergo photographic reconstruction, culminating in an intermedia composite artwork that bridges textile craft, analog photography, and conceptual documentation.
